CONTACT DURING COVID-19 EMERGENCY
Monday, March 23, 2020
FROM THE LOCAL 1 PLUMBERS & GAS-FITTERS TRAINING CENTER:
Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020 we have paused our current “school model”. We have suspended all in-person training including Apprentice Classes as well as Evening and Saturday programs we are currently running or have scheduled.
For the Apprentice classes, we are fortunate to have access through the UA Training Department to the “Blackboard” digital training system, as well as the UA’s OLR (On-Line Resource) system. We will be able to connect with the Apprentice population remotely and conduct training. Apprentices should look for an e-mail giving instructions on how they will be required to participate. Apprentices are also reminded to attend work on previously scheduled school days, call the Training Center immediately if you are told to stay home from work or you are laid off, and maintain your NYS DOL Blue Books. Follow all program rules as usual. For class-related inquiries, contact your instructor through Blackboard. If you are confused about what is expected of you or to report a layoff or job closure, contact the Training Center office staff at Local1JATC@ua1tef.org. Your e-mail will be answered Monday through Friday, 9am - 4pm.
JOURNEYMEN & HELPERS
There is an important approaching deadline of September 1, 2020 for SST cards. In order to continue to provide SST cards for our members, we are directing them to complete 8 hour Fall Prevention and 2 hour Drug & Alcohol Awareness classes on-line through ClickSafety. We have arranged for these courses to be added to our existing Portal in the Members Only section of the Local 1 website with a discounted price. Click here to go directly to the portal. E-mail the Training Center office staff at Local1JATC@ua1tef.org. Your e-mail will be answered Monday through Friday, 9am - 4pm.
After completion of 8 hour Fall Prevention and 2 hour Drug & Alcohol Awareness with ClickSafety, we are setting up a system whereby members can apply to the Training Center for an SST card on-line. They will have to upload their OSHA 30 card, ClickSafety completion certificates, and a headshot (passport) photo. We can then process and produce an SST card for them and mail it to their home. We will post details of this upcoming process to the website in coming weeks.
Monthly weld test events to qualify welders will continue, but only for welders currently qualified, who need to renew their qualification in order to work. For details, e-mail the Training Center office staff at Local1JATC@ua1tef.org. Your e-mail will be answered Monday through Friday, 9am - 4pm. Please be aware that the Training Center is dependent on an x-ray testing facility which may have limited availability. Test events will be held based on x-ray facility availability.
