MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION AMENDING THE PLUMBING CODE
3/15/2010

Mayor Bloomberg signs Intro 874-A on November 17, 2009 as Councilwoman Inez Dickens, the Sponsor of the Bill, Councilman James Sanders, George Reilly, Business Manager of Plumbers Local 1, John Murphy, Financial Secretary-Treasurer of Plumbers Local 1, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, and Committee Chair Councilman Erik Dilan look on.

Intro 874-A is a bill that, simply stated, requires that whenever piping of methane and/or radon gas is installed, it must be performed by licensed master plumbers.  The bill also mandates the creation of and approval of mechanical joint standards by the DOB Commissioner. The law amends the Plumbing Code to require that DOB develop standards that manufacturers must meet in order to use mechanical joining methods in New York City.
