JOURNEYMAN CLASSES
Listed below are the classes that will be offered. To register for classes, you can fax or mail in the enrollment form to the Training Center. Please note that all classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. A $25 registration fee will hold you a seat in any class. ____________________________________________________________
ARC WELDING I: This course will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course will be for the beginner welder. This course will provide you with a thorough understanding of arc welding, welding safety, arc welding power sources, electrode classifications and selection. It will also provide training to develop the skills necessary to make welds in all positions on mild steel plate using E6010 and E7018 electrodes. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. CALL FOR START DATES
ARC WELDING II: This course will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course will be for the beginner pipe welder. This course will provide the student with a thorough understanding of uphill pipe welding and weld quality. It will also provide the necessary training to develop the welding skills necessary to produce quality multipass welds on pipe in the 2G and 5G positions, using E6010 and E7018 electrodes. This course will provide you with the fundamentals for layout and fabrication of typical pipe connections and to use mathematics, basic equations etc. for properly fabricating these connections. ARC WELDING III: This course will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course will be for experienced welders and will lead to a Welding Certification. This course will provide a thorough understanding of uphill and downhill pipe welding and weld quality. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. Certifications will be held on Saturdays. There will be a non refundable testing fee of $150.00 for the weld certification agency.

ARC WELDING IV :(Gas Tungsten Arc Welding)
This course will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course will be for experienced welders and will provide the welder with a thorough understanding of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, arc characteristics and welding safety. It will provide training to develop the skills necessary to make quality gas tungsten arc welds on mild steel plate, leading to the skills necessary to produce quality welds on pipe. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. ( Prerequisite: Students registering for ARC WELDING IV must already hold the Uphill Welding Certification A.S.M.E. Section IX B 31.1 )
Certifications will be held on Saturdays. There will be a non refundable testing fee of $150.00 for the weld certification agency.

PLUMBING CODE CLASS:
This class will be held on Tuesdays, from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course is designed to aid the student in understanding and navigating through the code. Special focus will be on Ch. 7 Definitions, Ch. 15 Drainage, Ch. 16 Venting, Ch. 17 Storm Drainage, Ch. 18 Indirect Waste, Ch. 19 Special & Miscellaneous Waste and Ch. 20 Hospital Fixtures. Sizing of Waste, Vent, and interpolation for sizing combined systems will be covered. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. A Plumbing Code book is required. Available at a cost of $ 110.00

ADVANCED PLAN READING and RELATED DRAWING In order to participate fully in this course, the student will needed to already have a good understanding of blueprints and plan reading.
This is a 9 - week class that will be held on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. An overall view of modern plans and details will be presented. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. Advanced Plan Reading and Related Drawing text is required at a cost of $74.55
(Note: This class is a prerequisite for registration in Drafting and Field Coordination class, and the CAD classes)

DRAFTING AND FIELD COORDINATION:
This is an 18 week course that will run from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This course is designed to familiarize the student with the additional concepts, problems and required skills of the draftsman. The emphasis will be on traditional drafting and coordination. Hand sketching will be reviewed. The reading and interpretation of contract drawings with full integration of architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings will be explained. Integration of written specifications, fixture and equipment cuts, supports, pads and hanging systems will be explained. Creation of shop drawings, slot & sleeve drawings, coordination drawings, as built drawings, and close out charts and lists will be explained. Layout of mechanical rooms, foundation penetrations, and coordination of water main and sewer connections will be explained. Revisions, addendums, and architects supplemental instructions will be explained with discussion of their impact on change orders, extras, and deletions from the original contract. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS:
This is a 9-week class that will be held on Mondays from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. This class will provide an overview of computer technology, theory and concepts including an introduction to microcomputer terminology. Functions and capabilities of word processors, spreadsheets, databases and graphics are covered through lecture, discussion and hands-on-assignments. Concepts include types of software and hardware, data structure and management, communications and network fundamentals will be discussed. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. (Note: This class will be a prerequisite for registration in CAD classes)

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING (CAD) - LEVEL I : This course is designed as an introduction to computer aided drafting (CAD) and the CAD environment. This course will examine the fundamentals of CAD software. The U.A. Auto CAD Level I binder is required at a cost of $160.00 A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class.
It is strongly recommended that each student purchase and install on their home computer the AutoCAD student software CD with a 1 year license, at a cost of $160.00 so they can practice at home between classes.
(Note: To register for this class you must have previously completed Advanced Plan Reading AND Introduction to Computers)

SOLDERING AND BRAZING TECHNIQUES This is a 9 week class that will be held from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class.

SAFETY / OSHA - SMART MARK: This course will focus on the recognition of workplace safety hazards, with emphasis on accident prevention. Among other subjects, proper use of personal protection equipment such as safety glasses, dust masks, proper work clothing, etc. will be discussed. Proper lifting and carrying techniques to prevent employee injury will be taught. Ladder, scaffold, and power tool safety will be addressed. Proper handling and disposal of common hazardous materials will be covered. This is a 12 hour course. 3 Classes will be held 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. 10 Hour OSHA and U.A. Smart Mark safety certification cards will be issued. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. Smart Mark booklets are required at a cost of $ 6.50 for the set.

MEDICAL GAS INSTALLER CERTIFICATION (Note: A valid FDNY Certificate of Fitness for Torch Use is a prerequisite for registration in the Medical Gas Installer class.) This class covers NFPA 99 C 2005 Edition. This course includes code interpretation, correct piping installation and testing, requirements for installer qualification, and requirements for brazer qualification in accordance with ASME Section IX. There will be a third party proctored written and a two position brazing test required for certification as installer and brazer of Medical Gas Systems. Four courses will be held; they will each run for nine weeks from 5:00 to 9:30 p.m. Test material will be supplied by the school. Students must supply their own practice material. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class.

RESIDENTIAL FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS: This course will cover when and where domestic fire suppression systems are required. Compactors, compactor rooms, compactor chutes, hallways, stairwells and garages will be discussed. Size and materials required for domestic fire suppression piping will be discussed. Types, uses, patterns and temperatures of sprinklers will be demonstrated. Standpipe systems and Fire Department testing will be discussed. There will be discussion of the various licenses and certificates required such as HO-1 for NYC Housing Authority. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. BACKFLOW DEVICE TESTER CERTIFICATION
This course covers the required practices for inspection, annual required testing, repairs and maintenance of backflow prevention assemblies used in the cross connection control program of New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Course material includes information needed for identifying cross - connections, understanding how backflow occurs and the dangers they present, methods used to control backflow and the recommended applications for each type of backflow assembly. Students successfully completing the course will be Certified by the New York State Department of Health as Backflow Prevention Device Testers. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. This is a 32-hour course. Each course will be held as follows:

UA STAR PLUMBING MASTERY EXAM CLASS:
The UA STAR Certification was designed through an ANSI approved test development process to give you the edge in the competitive plumbing industry. As a UA plumber you can take the UA STAR Certification exam and earn STAR Certification, plus 30 college credits toward an Associates Degree in Industrial Training or Construction Supervision. The UA STAR Program was developed jointly by the UA and Ferris State University one of the most highly acclaimed providers of industrial education programs in the United States. The test is administered by National Inspection Testing Certification (NITC).
THE PREP COURSE
The prep course is 18 hours long, spread over four nights. It is a review / prep for the UA Star exam. All of the subjects covered by the exam will be reviewed. The subjects covered in the examination consist of: Piping and Tubing, Inspection and Testing, Plumbing Fixtures, Water Supply and Distribution, Drainage, Waste and Vent Systems, Pumps, Welding, Gas, Safety, Related Science and Code, Blueprint Reading, Mathematics and Measurement. A non refundable registration fee of $25.00 is required to hold a seat in the class. THE EXAM The UA STAR/NITC exam is designed to test the knowledge of the experienced plumber who has a minimum of five years of field experience. The examination consists of 199 questions. To pass this exam you must answer at least 158 questions correctly. The passing score is 79.4 %. The UA STAR/NITC Certification exam is a closed book exam.
There is a non-refundable $128.00 test fee to take the exam, payable to N.I.T.C.
